Eusebio Brought to Tears by Portugal

Portuguese legend, Eusebio, has revealed that his national team’s Euro 2012 quarterfinal win over the Czech Republic brought tears to his eyes. “After the match, I hugged Luis Figo, and tears rolled down my face”, the 70 year old said, following Portugal’s late win over the Czechs in Warsaw.

The Portuguese had spurned a number of chances before Cristiano Ronaldo’s 79th minute header gave them a 1-0 lead, which they were never to relinquish. “I am a happy man thanks to these players, who played very well,” Eusebio said.
Eusebio, who represented Portugal during the 1966 World Cup in England, was quick to remind sceptics in the media of how much Paolo Bento’s side have achieved so far, at this tournament. Continue reading “Eusebio Brought to Tears by Portugal”

GERRARD IS BACK

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has given manager Kenny Dalglish a massive boost ahead of the FA Cup final with Chelsea after getting his fitness back in crucial time. Steven Gerrard missed the match against West Brom after suffering an injury. Kenny Dalglish said that it was difficult to see Gerrard making it for the FA Cup final. Gerrard has excellent memories of the FA Cup final from the past after helping Liverpool win the 2006 FA Cup final in the most incredible fashion against West Ham United. Gerrard was rested for the match against Fulham on Tuesday night along with star striker Luis Suarez.

However, it is not all good news for manager Kenny Dalglish because midfielder Charlie Adam will miss the match after being ruled out for the rest of the season. Even though the midfielder will not require an operation, he is going to be unavailable for the rest of the season. Liverpool suffered another defeat at home this season at the hands of Fulham. The 1-0 defeat adds more pressure on Kenny Dalglish, who admitted that it was not the best preparation for the FA Cup final. Martin Skrtel scored the own goal early in the match, but Liverpool never really looked like getting back into the match.

“He’s fine, no problem. We said it was just a precaution so he’s back training. He’s been training all week, so there’s no other problems,” Kenny Dalglish said regarding Steven Gerrard. “There is no operation needed but he won’t play this season. And I would think if they had any designs on having him in the Olympics he wouldn’t be fit for that either,” Dalglish said after confirming that Charlie Adam will not require a surgery. Liverpool are struggling in the league this season in the eighth position, which could be the worst since 1954.

POULSEN MAY MOVE ON

Former Liverpool midfielder Christian Poulsen could be on the move once again, as his agent has recently revealed that a number of top clubs are looking at the possibility of signing the former Juventus midfielder.

The 32-year-old Danish midfielder had a horrible time at Anfield, which soon culminated in the move to French club Evian in the summer. He signed a one-year contract with the French club, which will come to an end at the end of this season. As a result, he is available on a free transfer, which has made him a valuable proposition in the transfer market according to his agent.

Jorn Bonnesen has said recently that many clubs have been attracted to the fact that they can sign the 32-year-old on a free transfer. Due to his experience, he will be valuable to any team in the world according to his agent. Christian Poulsen has been a major influence at his current club Evian, who are currently challenging for a top half finish in the French league. It is quite impressive achievement for the club, who were promoted only last season. Jorn Bonnesen also confirmed that his client’s first choice will be to stay with his current club. Hence, they will be opening talks with Evian before any other club.

“It’s correct that there have been some enquiries from clubs from the biggest leagues in Europe. They have noticed that Christian is close to his former level and a very important player for Evian. We will, of course, talk to Evian before we talk to other clubs,” Christian Poulsen’s agent Jorn Bonnesen recently confirmed about his client’s future. It is very much expected that Poulsen will extend his stay at the French club considering the importance of the midfielder, who has plenty of experience, next season.
