TIME TO MOVE ON

Celtic are looking at the possibility of signing Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon on a free transfer at the end of this season. Celtic are also looking at signing Fraser Forster, but have made Craig Gordon than their backup transfer target in case they fail to land the former.

Craig Gordon is out of contract at the end of the season, and is very unlikely that Sunderland will be looking at the possibility of offering a new deal for the former Scotland international. The £ 9 million signing has not played a great deal of football in the last two years, but Neil Lennon reckons that he will be able to get the best out of the goalkeeper.

Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill only recently revealed that he will be giving a chance to Craig Gordon to prove himself in the remaining few matches of the Premier league. Since Sunderland have nothing to play for in the remainder of the season, Martin O’Neill sees this is a great opportunity to assess the capacity of Craig Gordon. One of the major stumbling block in the move could be the wages of Craig Gordon. He currently runs around £ 40,000 per week, but Celtic will be unable to match that offer.

KOLO WANTS TEVEZ SCORING

Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has said that he would love to see Carlos Tevez scored the title winning goal for Manchester City. The club are in a fight with leaders Manchester United for the Premier league title. Even though United are the favourites to win the title mainly because of their easier fixture run in and huge experience, Manchester City are too strong to disregard. They have recently welcomed back Carlos Tevez after a six-month absence following the refusal of the Argentine to play for the club. City were recently eliminated from the Europa league, despite their win against Sporting Lisbon. Hence, the Premier league remains the only trophy the two clubs can target now.

Manchester city manager Roberto Mancini recently confirmed that Carlos Tevez will be in the squad to face Chelsea. Carlos Tevez has been the nemesis for Chelsea in the last few years. It is going to be an important match for Manchester City because any dropped points in this match will prove to be a boon for United, who already have a one-point advantage. The Ivorian centre back Kolo Toure has said that Carlos Tevez is one of the most important members of the squad and he would love to see the Argentine score the goal that would win the title for Manchester City.

“It would be great if he could play against Chelsea because he’s got a great record against them. I would love it if he scored the goal to win us the title because for me he’s a great player. A problem can happen but his quality is still there. It’s great to have him in the squad again. He can score goals and he’s a strong player,” Kolo Toure said ahead of the match. Chelsea come into the match on the back of four straight victories.

KOMPANY ISSUES RALLYING CRY

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has issued a rallying call to his team mates, stating that they cannot afford to be relaxed in spite of holding on to the top spot in the English Premier League table after their thrashing of Blackburn Rovers at home in the Etihad Stadium last weekend.

However, Kompany has also issued a warning to all the chasing clubs that the pressure is on them to catch up with The Citizens, who, in his eyes, are the favorites to win the English Premier League title.

It was only a few days back that Kompany promised to the fans that he wanted to bring five back to back English Premier League titles to the Etihad Stadium to quench the hunger of the fans that have been starved of success for so long. Kompany also admitted that among the chasing pack, only Manchester United can potentially stop them from winning their first English Premier League title due to their vast experience in winning titles but the defender is ready to lock them out when the two sides meet in what will be the title decider next month.

Vincent Kompany is also pleased with the form of the Manchester City side that had been struggling recently but has returned to top form with huge victories in both the English Premier League and the UEFA Europa League.

SALGADO CONTEMPLATES MLS MOVE

Michel Salgado, defender for the Premier League side Blackburn Rovers, is contemplating to move to LA Galaxy, the team that took David Beckham out of the European footballing community.

To further his negotiations, Salgado travelled to the United States recently claiming that he was being left out of matches because if he made nine more appearances for the club, they would be required to renew his contract – something lackburn appear unwilling to do.

The ex-Real Madrid defender has been named in the 25 man squad for the Blackburn Rovers, but it is evident that he no longer wishes to play for Steve Kean’s side again.  He was recently declared to be match-fit, but has been constantly kept off the field after the team’s loss to Sunderland on the 21st of December last year.

This is being done at Ewood Park because the management wishes to rid itself of the burden of high-profile players who earn huge wages. The team’s finances are clearly under duress and this move, however objectionable, will reduce the stress on their finances. The fans aren’t happy with the club’s approach, and the team’s performances haven’t been particularly great either.

When the team’s manager, Steve Kean was approached and asked to comment on the issue of Michel Salgado, all he offered was that the management had allowed Salgado to travel to the United States to talk about his future plans with LA Galaxy and that the talk had been fairly productive.
